Names

So I have a new computer (A shuttle I plan to use as a small server for home) and so it needed a hostname. Now would be a good time to mention that my naming system to date has been female names (they just sound nicer) and so it became orly.netech.ie joining grainne, aine, sorcha, imelda and sarah in the pantheon of my computers.

With the new job I will be getting two new computers, a desktop and a laptop, and so I am beginning to think about names for these machines. Normally when naming sets of machines I would try to use releated names, e.g. the names of two girls who are good friends and who you would think of together in the normal scheme of things.

So I have a pair of names in mind but will the ladies in question approve?

    pinky and brain?
    pip and pop?
    master and minion?

  2. Claire says:

I can approve but not of Donal’s suggestions!
Doesn’t he realise that I am both Pinky and the Brain?

I think it would be most inappropriate for Claire to sit in your lap. On the other hand neither of us are particularly portable. It would be a difficult decision.

All in all I think Summer and Marissa are better choices. Summer is so a laptop.

I much prefer naming them after people I know rather than fictional charactors.
    Wierd I know.

Claire, thanks for the clarification. I humbly suggest “Sapphire” and “Steel” instead. If you don’t recognise the reference, then I’m just too damn old.

  6. Claire says:

possibly you are too old - I had to google it.

Also, I think Mary is more portable - she moves around different countries, I tend to just stay here.

  8. Mares says:

You’ve been to way more countries than I ever have so on that basis you ate the lap top.
